"Great Eats" By Jane Garvey
For a culinary trip around the world, visit the east west Bistro. Within its brick-lined walls, executive chef (and poet) Lamar Thomas, a native of tucker, showcases his widely ranging cooking experience. This popular bistro is four differently styles restaurants in a single space, including a casual dining spot, a more formal upstairs, a special events dining room and a bar. "Downtown," as the street-level dining room is called, is a warm brick-walled space with burgundy ceilings and stone gray walls; its menu ranges from grazing tapes (small dishes) to Asian-inspired fare. In the upstairs dining rooms, called "Uptown," the featured cuisine is northern Italian. The wine list offers surprises, such as the 1976 Heitz Angelica, a dessert wine made from the old California mission grape.
